Runak woke up on a gasp. Several alarms were going off within his unit as the system was hell bent on waking him up. He didn’t know what was going on but he was about to find out. The glass panel within his unit flagged a report in front of him. He read it twice, disbelieving what he was reading.

The ship had been docked and two life forms boarded the Cynthiana and three left. His fingers fumbled as he worked to get the hell out of the unit. Runak’s gaze went straight over to Ehren’s unit but he wasn’t there. Odeni was nowhere to be found either. Runak growled, knowing exactly what had happened. Odeni had double-crossed him. It was not going to happen again—not at all.

Olympians as a race were unforgiving creatures—once the trust was broken it could never be brought back. There was no way Runak could ever trust Odeni again. The floor was ice cold as though the air system had been shut off. Runak cursed, dressing quickly. His head was spinning as he moved. He was unsteady on his feet as he worked to get out of the hyper chamber room. He pressed his hands along the wall as he rushed to the airlock as though he could see who or what had been there but it was too late. He pressed his hands against the door, looking out the window, but there was nothing but the void yelling back. The bounty hunters had him. Where the hell was Odeni? He was going to destroy him for this.

Runak turned the corner and came face-to-face with Odeni and the knife in his hand. “What do you expect to gain from this?” Runak asked.

Odeni smiled wickedly. “I have enough biocredits to get to the other side of the galaxy any time I want.”

“You don’t have a ship?”

“I’ll be taking an escape pod.”

He wouldn’t be going anywhere. Runak was the only one who had the code to the escape pod. Without his order, no one would be flying off this ship solo.

“Like hell you will.”

“You’re going to give me the code. Now!”

Runak leapt forward, knocking the knife out of Odeni’s hand. He grabbed him around the neck and started dragging him to the only containment unit they had on the ship. Runak threw him into the jail, engaging the lock on the door before Odeni could even process what had happened. He stared at Odeni, wondering why he ever gave him a chance.

“Show me your arm.”

“Fuck off. I don’t owe you anything.”

“Show me your arm or I blow you out the airlock now.”

Reluctantly, Odeni lifted his hand, showing him the number of biocredits he received on his portable. He couldn’t believe that he had called the bounty hunters and gotten the money in exchange for Ehren’s life.

“You’re a piece of shit. You will never ever get away with this. If I don’t get him back, you’re dead.”

Runak rushed to the command center and got in front of the glass panel where Viken normally sat.
